DISRUPT aims to deliver a reference platform that will not only offer the foundation for the DISRUPT system but will also provide a framework that enables building applications and tools and offering services or even machines that address specific business use cases. Through the DISRUPT approach, developers and machine providers are made an integral part of the organisation's ecosystem, enabling collaboration and rapid application development processes, while facilitating decision makers in the adoption of proposed changes.

DISRUPT proposes a holistic approach to ICT-enabled manufacturing by integrating data analytics, complex event processing and cyber-physical operations empowered by decision support tools and incorporating not only the structure of the plant floor but also the manufacturing chain and the characteristics of the production processes from cradle to grave and how each part of the corresponding ecosystem interacts with the others.

Data processing

To employ data analytics and complex event processing techniques for: i) the collection of data from diverse sources, ii) the analysis of these data to turn them into meaningful real-time metrics, and iii) the correlation and analysis of events across multiple data streams in real-time to allow intelligent automated action to operational needs.

Cyber-Physical Operations

To adopt a modular, flexible CPS structural architecture that empowers production schemes by facilitating both robustness and concurrent development, offering seamless integration of the organisation's CPSs and the simple evolution and incorporation of other existing systems.

Modular Decision Support

To integrate a collaborative service suite for informed decision support, based on: i) modelling and design, ii) plant floor simulation, iii) semantically enhanced production scheduling, iv) production and capacity planning optimization, and v) optimization of manufacturing chain capabilities.

Controller on the Cloud

To integrate all tools and modules into one robust system, enabling their effective collaboration and the seamless communication of information, knowledge, and decisions to the plant floor and across the value chain.


To be able to accommodate its user in interacting with such a complex environment, DISRUPT introduces the notion of the CloudBoard, a cloud-based dashboard that visualises all related aspects of the manufacturing unit with respect to the plant floor and the manufacturing chain.
